Kimnat’s Story

How we started
Kimnat Café began quietly — born from slow mornings, garden meals, and the southern Vietnamese flavours we missed from home. We didn’t set out to build a café. We wanted to build a space that felt personal — like the kind of home where food is cooked slowly, seasonings are measured by instinct, and conversations unfold gently over tea and toast.
Woombye’s First Bakery. Our New Beginning.
Fittingly, the building we now call Kimnat has always held the spirit of care and craft. Over a hundred years ago, this Queenslander was home to Woombye’s very first bakery.
Louis Willersdorf, a 13-year-old immigrant from Germany, opened the town’s only bakery in 1876. He became known for his slow-fermented loaves, his warm buns, and his deep pride in doing things properly — from scratch. In many ways, we’re just continuing what he started.

Our philosophy
Today we bring our own story to this space through fusion dishes that blend Vietnamese soul with Sunshine Coast creativity.
No shortcuts. No fuss. Just honest cooking, inspired by the kind of meals that make you pause.
A bowl of pho broth slow-simmered overnight.
A bánh mì that surprises you.
And whether you’re here for five minutes or fifty, we hope it always feels like a place you’d come back to and bring someone you care about.
